was a roaring success!
Scott Cahill, of Atherton, was the runaway winner in his Laser
in a time of 640.53secs after all competitors completed 9 runs each.

Scottie was not in the fastest car on the day
however his consistently controlled driving saw him have a penalty free day,
and provides clear proof that the fastest is not always the winner!

Scottie is shortly to depart for the mines and there are some competitors
who can't wait to give them a chance of winning!

Scott was also 1st in the Under 1600cc Class.

Tony Fox, of Mossman, came in 2nd overall in his Autopro XD Falcon,
and 1st in Over 2lt Class, in 659.60secs.

After blowing up his motor at the previous Khanacross practise day
which saw another engine fitted in the week leading up to this event
this was a great result by Foxy.

However Foxy has yet to win an event after 3 years of competing
and has made no secret of the fact he intends taking out
the Club Championship for 2008!

Dave Page of Cairns came in a close 3rd overall
only 3.2 seconds further back, and 1st in 4WD Class,
in 662.83secs in his Mitsubishi Evo.

Dave was actually leading the event going into the last run of the day
however taking out a number of witches hats right on the finish line
saw him slip back to 3rd.

This was Daves 1st ever Khanacross event
so nonetheless this was an awesome overall result.

Once Dave has his car control a little better sorted
there is no doubt he will be a force to be reckoned with in upcoming events.

The esteemed President of the Douglas Shire Motor Sports Association
Bob Errey came in a very credible 4th overall
and 2nd in Over 2lt Class
in his totally unsuitable Falcon station wagon in a time of 664.79 seconds.

Bob usually runs the events however due to help being available on the day he was able to compete and this was his 1st competition event for many years.

Despite coming 4th Bob was a little disappointed not to beat Foxy
but with helpers indicating their availability for the next event
he will again be competing and has vowed to beat Foxy next time!

Foxy is still deciding whether to lend him some more suitable tyres though,
not that either of them are competitive in any way!

Regular competitor Peter Brown of Mt Molloy rounded out the top 5
in his trusty old Celica.

Brownie is always an entertaining driver to watch
as he spends so little time driving in a straight line!

Brownie finished in a total time of 673.59 seconds
and was also 1st in the 1600 - 2lt Class.

Brownies very competitive Celica is actually for sale
and details may be viewed via

Another regular competitor, Peter Hendry, of Atherton
finished sixth in an old Bluebird he threw together only the day before
after his usual 120Y suffered some major mechanical issues.

While not finishing as far up the field as he usually does
Pete was at least satisfied in beting his son Scott
who shared the same car for the day.

Petes time was 684.51 which also gave him 2nd in the 1600 - 2lt Class.

In another Bluebird was Steve Hendry of Herberton
coming in 7th overall, and 3rd in the 1600 - 2lt Class
in a time of 694.22 seconds.

Curly, like so many others, would have finished much further up the field
but trying to widen the track on the notorious Colt Corner
and causing slight damage to the front of his car
saw him slip well down the placings.

Another always entertaining driver, Stick Quinn of Cairns,
came in 8th overall in his Handy Tow Gemini
in a time of 694.92 seconds.

While specatcular sideways movements throughout the day
provided much entertainment for all watching
Stick could perhaps learn that full throttle constantly
is not always the best method of driving!

Another very 1st time competitor, Bruce Perry of Mossman,
did very well in his Subaru station wagon.

Bruce finished 9th overall
and 2nd in the 4WD Class in a time of 716.65.

Taking home a trophy is his 1st ever event
certainly bought a smile to Bruces face
and great enthusasm for future events.

Scott Hendry, of Atherton, rounded out the top 10
in the Bluebird shared with is Dad Pete.

Finishing in 723.87 seconds Scott did very well
considering his lack of competition in recent years
and managed to keep the car in one piece
much to Petes delight!

Coming home 11th overall was the DSMSA Treasurer
Greg Skyring of Mossman
in a time of 730.53.

In yet another Father - Son competition the Father won again
with Greg, very happily and thankfully,
beating his son Zachary by one place in their shared Mitsubishi Galant.

Greg was also 2nd in the Under 1600 Class
and despite finishing so far down the field
still took home a trophy!

After spending much of the day on 2 wheels
apparently confusing a car with his usual Motocross bike
Zachary Skyring was most fortunate not to totally destroy his Dads new car!

Yep, Yet another victim for the notorious Colt Corner!

Zach managed to finely balance the Misubishi
on the inside bank of the corner
and the car was ever so close to tipping over completely.

Zach did manage to finish the day, however, in 12th place overall
in a time of 752.24 seconds
which actually saw him 3rd in the Under 1600 Class
and the 1st Junior home,
albeit the only Junior competing on the day!

Smiling all the way Zach did have one up on his Dad in
taking home 2 trophies!

Zach is yet another driver who will be very competitive in upcoming events
once he learns that 4 wheels on the ground, in a car,
are much better than 2!

Not quite so fortunate in being able to finish the event
were Joe Warren and Daniel Brown, of Cairns,
in their shared Toyota.

Major over heating issues saw their early retirement
but both have vowed to get these problems sorted
and give everyone a go at the next event.

And rounding out the field in last place overall
was the event sponsor Mick Tesch
in the Club Camira.

Another non-finisher Mick decided that as he wasn't going to win
he may as well retire early and go and have a beer
and at least finish at one end of the field overall!

Mick has however decided to sort a car of his own to compete in
although his choice of a Holden, to beat the Ford boys, (Foxy in particular)
for future events
may see him provide lots of amusement for fellow competitors
rather than any actual competiton!

The club was very thankful for the welcome presence
of the very experienced Motor Sports official Bob Byham,
all the way from Mt Gambier,
who was the event steward on the day.

Bob travels all the way up, from South Australia, twice a year,
and has become a very valued friend of the club.
