The 1st Time on Dirt for '08
was hosted by the Douglas Shire Motor Sports Association
at it's Reef & Rainforest Track, Mossman,
on Sunday 13th April
as a Khanacross Practise Day.
This practise day was an ideal opportunity for anyone considering competing in the future
or just wanting to have some fun on a dirt track to come along and have a go
and 8 new drivers to the track took advantage of this opportunity on the day.
After starting the day calmly and cautiously
all new drivers showed great improvement throughout the day
and by days end were driving confidently, albeit chaotically at times!
Brownie & Foxy held up the old timers image
with consistently fast controlled driving themselves
while offering track tips to the new guys
during their breaks in driving.
The track tips did become less as the day went on
as the new kids on the block
started looking like they might beat the old timers
at the upcoming competition events
although Foxy did redeem himself
on the very last run of the day
by posting a fastest lap of the day
in Bobs totally unsuitable
Automatic EB Falcon Station Wagon!
Unfortunately both Brownie & Foxy had their own cars back on their trailers well before days end
with both, cars that is, requiring major surgery, and in Foxy's case a full heart lung transplant, car that is!
Both, guys that is, have sworn to be up and running again for the 1st competition event on Sunday 27th.
Along with deals being done on the day, and 2 cars looking like changing hands,
all the new guys appeared to catch the Khanacross bug with all having huge grins on their faces.
Some left with plans of buying and sorting a car asap
while others were busy planning modifications to their existing cars.
Ken & Dave C looking for a car together,
Christian buying Joes Celica,
Joe buying Brownies Celica,
Bruce & Wesley searching for shockies,
Dave P doing turbo mods,
Colin hunting for a rig,
plus Brownies & Foxys surgery mentioned above,
are going to keep all busy
in the 2 short weeks before the 27th!
With such a great level of interest from new competitors
the club is very much looking forward
to a very sucessful 2008.
Bob, Northy, & Foxy look forward to working together
to continue to provide successful operation
and promotion of all upcoming events
with valued input from all involved.
It was great to hear almost every single person present
at the practise day mention this website
with most new drivers being present
simply due to it being in place.
One new guy only found us on early on the Sunday morning,
via a google search,
and by phoning the mobile number, published on the day,
was able to come up from Cairns and have a drive!
The Internet in Action - Awesome!
A warm fuzzy feeling is enveloping the Car Competitors @ The Reef & Rainforest Track
and all interested are welcome to come along and enjoy the fun throughout 2008.
