The DSMSA
4th Khanacross Event for 2009 was held on Sunday 9th August

Dirty Car Fun

The Douglas Shire Motor Sports Association held its 4th Khanacross event for the year at its Mossman Reef and Rainforest track on Sunday,
with yet another great turn-out of drivers.

26 drivers took to the track, in very dusty conditions for some dirty car fun, and the 1st rollover of the year occurred on the notorious Colt Corner.

Kyle Skyring misjudged his speed and in doing so managed to flip his Dad’s Mitsubishi Galant on to its roof, thus ending his runs for the day.

Kyle escaped unscathed, although the same could not be said for the car and its permanent retirement seems imminent.

1st time competitor, Demi Norris, also managed to slip off the outside edge of Colt Corner
but fortunately managed to leave the car balanced on the corner lip rather than sliding right off into the adjacent creek.

Herberton driver, Curly Hendry, had a penalty and trouble free day to blitz the rest of the field and take out overall honors in 1st place in a time of 586.02 seconds.

Coming home 2nd was Mossman driver Bruce Perry in 607.43 seconds, and rounding out the top 3 was Peter Hendry of Atherton in 609.81 seconds.

Other drivers of note were juniors Duanne Hoffman and Jaiden Barnes, both of Mossman, finishing in 7th and 10th respectively,
with Jaiden beating his Dad, Kevin, by 8 seconds at the end of the day.

Rather than traveling with Jaiden, as a passenger, to coach and guide it is now thought Kevin may now be learning more from his son than actually teaching him!

Tony "Foxy" Fox had major fuel problems in his XD Falcon in his first 4 runs so jumped into Bob Errey's Laser for the last 3 runs
and subsequently set the fastest lap time, for that run, in his 2nd run in the Laser.

Foxy has now retired his Falcon and is frantically trying to find another Laser, or similar, to complete the season in a more reliable and competitive manner.

Bruce Perrys 2nd overall on the day has now seen him move even further into the lead in the 2009 Club Championship, with 71 points accrued,
with Alex Scomazzon in 2nd place on 64 points and Foxy in 3rd on 60 points.

Jaqui Osbourne has also moved into 1st place in the Under 1600cc Class as well as 1st in Ladies Class and 2nd in Juniors, in the Club Championship.

Jaqui drove for the 1st time on Sunday without her regular coach Bob, as passenger,
and other than one unfortunate spin, which probably cost her 2 places, she drove very straight and smoothly throughout the day.

All in all another absolutely awesome event and the DSMSA continues to go from strength to strength with new members and drivers at every event
and with the season only 1/2 way through already 40 drivers have competed at the Reef & Rainforest Track in 2009.

It's All Great "Grass Roots" Motor Sports Fun!
