Motorsports Mossman Khanacross
Sunday 15th July '07 - Results & Pics
The DSMSA held its first Motorsports Mossman dirt track event for the year, Sunday July 15th,
at its Reef & Rainforest Racetrack.
After the recent rain the track was in near perfect condition thanks to Richie Collis and his Grader,
combined with Bob's, Northy's, and Foxy's efforts over preceeding weekends.
The ten competitors from Mossman, Cairns, and the Tablelands set some very fast and close times over ten rounds
and provided great entertainment for the good numbers of spectators throughout the day.
Racing against the clock, all the drivers pushed their cars to the limit on the various track layouts in pursuit of the fastest times.
First place went to Steven Hendry in his newly built Nissan Bluebird in a time of 907.09 seconds.
Second was Mt Molloy driver Peter Brown in a time of 939.92 in his trusty Celica,
Anthony Draper rounded out the top three in 965.12 secs in his classic Mk 1 Escort.
Local driver Paul Breed had a day that he would rather forget rolling the Clubs Mitsubishi Colt on his 6th run.
Paul was unhurt but Motorsports Mossman is now looking for a new Club car!
Fortunately club cameraderie saw Scott Cahill offer Anne, the other driver of the club car, his Laser for the rest of the event
which she drove well, and excelled in her front-wheel-drive experience for the day.
Tony Fox was most thankful that Paul & Anne didn't embarrass him by going quicker in his old car for the day,
due to its demise, than he could go in his new car!
A fun day was had by all in attendance, both competitors and spectators alike,
and it was great to see 1st time competitors having a go
along with many new spectators discovering our form of safe motorsports fun.
The next Motorsports Mossman event is a Khanacross on Sunday 16th September.
All interested in all forms of motorsport are most welcome, and encouraged, to attend.
