The DSMSA
3rd Khanacross Event for 2009 was held on Sunday 5th July
The Biggest Car Event Ever at The Reef & Rainforest Track!
Held all day Sunday 5th July 2009 @ The Reef & Rainforest Track, Mossman, as an Open Khanacross for drivers 14yo and over,
27 drivers took to the track and had a blast!
With the top 3 places taken by drivers competing for the 1st time this season
local Mossman driver Bruce Perry had every reason to be a little disappointed in not winning his 1st ever event,
but nonetheless secured a very credible 4th place in his trusty Subaru Wagon.
Only 1.79 seconds separated the top 3 places with Herberton driver Curly Hendry 1st in a winning time of 567.44 seconds,
closely followed by Mareeba driver Scott Cahill in 568.72, with Mossman’s Ben Burke only ½ a second back in 3rd in 569.23 seconds.
This was Ben Burkes first event since 2007, when he was the DSMSA club champion, and despite his lay-off his result showed he has lost none of his skills.
Ben was invited to return to retirement at the days end!
Competitors all completed 8 runs each, which were timed as a race against the clock
with various time penalties incurred for wrong directions, hitting witches hats, and failure to stop correctly in the finish garage.
For the first time in a long time all competitors successfully completed the day in their own vehicles,
despite some rapid tyres changes being required between runs for a few punctures,
and some vehicles in serious need of repairs before the clubs next event in August.
It's All Great "Grass Roots" Motor Sports Fun!
