Despite occasional flailing arms
and a 180 spin in the middle of the back straight
in 1st place was Dave Page,
in his Knights Brakes Mitsubishi Evo.
In only his 1st competitive motor sports season
Dave’s Evo is by far and away the most well set-up car competing presently,
being a full-on 4WD rally-spec vehicle,
and as Dave learns more about it’s capabilities
he is progressively becoming further ahead of all other competition.
Dave finished in a total time of 909.83 seconds which gave him
1st Overall and 1st in 4WD Class.
Finishing 3 seconds back was the ever reliable Buebird of Curly Hendry.
Curly had a fairly uneventful day
and was one of the very few drivers not to incur any major penalties
or have any driving mishaps.
Curly finished in a total time of 912.06 seconds which gave him
2nd Overall and 1st in 1600 - 2lt Class.
A name synonymous with Australian Motor Sport,
5 times Australian Rally Champion Ross Dunkerton,
finished in 3rd place in his 1st event with the club.
Much more to be written about Ross in coming months
and we regard ourselves as very fortunate
to have someone of his caliber as part of our club.
Ross finished 3rd overall in 928.02 seconds
and also 1st in the over 2lt class.
Coming home in 4th place for the day was Tony Fox
in his Big Red XD Falcon.
Foxy was silly enough to think he was beating Ross on the day
but his own newly invented timing system
put paid to that with accurate times recorded!
Foxy's time was 952.47 seconds for 4th overall
and 2nd in the over 2lt class.
A highly commendable 5th placing was achieved by Bruce Perry
in his 4WD Subaru wagon.
While still only very new to the sport
Bruce is improving dramatically at every event.
His car simply launches from the line at starts
and this alone sees him gain a couple of seconds on almost everybody else
before traveling 50 meters!
Bruce's time was 968.29 seconds for 5th overall
and 2nd in 4WD Class.
Perennial competitor Peter Brown didn't have his best day
and was caught out a few times with Bob's ridiculously closely placed witches hats.
Same hazard for all though Brownie!
Brownie finished 6th overall in a time of 988.88 seconds
and 2nd in the 1600 - 2lt Class.
Mick Scomazzon took it upon himself to adjust the aero package
on his Dunnydore
by shortening the nose after a brush with the bank over treeline.
Didn't help though!
Mick finished in 7th overall in a time of 1004.56 seconds
which also got him 3rd in the over 2lt Class.
Robert Wochesländer took advantage of the resurrection of the old club Bluebird
and managed to keep the loaned car on 4 wheels at this event!
The Bluebird has changed hands a few times, since being the club car in early '07,
but is now back in the fold providing fun for all who drive her.
Roberts time was 1047.52 for 8th overall
which also got him a trophy for 3rd in the 1600 - 2lt Class.
See what staying upright can achieve Robert?
Only 2 seconds behind Robert was Stick Quinn
sharing the Bluebird after his Gemini blew a diff early in the day.
Stick was also another driver who managed
to shorten the nose of the car he was driving
with the Bluebird looking a little 2nd hand by days end thanks to his efforts.
We look forward to seeing Sticks panel beating skills when he straightens it out!
Stick was 9th overall in a time of 1049.53 seconds
and he was the only driver not to take home a trophy on the day.
Karma Stick!
In 10th place was Alex Scomazzon, son of Mick,
who made good use of the Dunnydore before dad Mick shortened it!
Only 14 years old Alex has much potential
and finishing his 2nd ever event with no major issues
is an achievement to be very proud of.
Alex's time was 1061.47 seconds
and he was also the 1st Junior home.
Continuing the family tradition Ross Dunkerton's 15yo son, Aaron Dunkerton, competed on Sunday as well although, rather thankfully,
father still well and truly outclasses son!
Aaron rounded out the field coming home 11th
and showed dramatic improvement throughout the day.
If genes are anything to go by he'll be a definite force
to be reckoned with in the not to distant future!
Aaron's time was 1125.09
and he was the 2nd Junior on the day.
