1st 4WD class
1st overall, and 1st in 4WD Class,
was Cairns driver Dave 'rallidave' Page in his Mitsubishi Evo
in a time of 621.56.
This was Dave’s 2nd ever event
and after finishing 8th
in the previous Motorkhana,
this was an awesome achievement!
Dave is going to be especially competitive
at the clubs Reef & Rainforest Track on dirt,
and many long term club members
are looking over their shoulders already!
Coming a very close 2nd overall,
and only 2.29 seconds behind David,
was 'Gentleman Terry' Saville in his exotic Clubman
all the way from Melbourne.
Terry was also 1st in B Class,
and finished in a time of 623.85.
Just a further 2 ½ seconds back
in 3rd overall,
and 1st in D Class,
was Mossman driver Tony 'Foxy' Fox
in his totally unsuitable XR6 Falcon
in a time of 626.48.
After 2 Motorkhanas in his big Falcon
Foxy is busy hunting for some new rear tyres!
Stick Quinn
made up the top four
finishing 4th overall,
and 1st in C Class,
in his Pretty Pink Gemini
in a total time of 629.63.
The Douglas Shire Motor Sports Association
hosted it’s 2nd event for 2008,
a Motorkhana - Sunday March 30th '08
in the new Port Douglas Industrial area,
Beor Street, Craiglie.
The Mossman Autopro Motorkhana
was a great success and numerous spectators throughout the day
enjoyed some great displays of skilled driving against the clock.
Competition was especially close
with only 8 seconds separating the top 4 drivers,
and each of the 1st 4 places also being 1st in their respective classes,
after 24 runs were completed by all competitors.
The Club thanks the event sponsors, Autopro Mossman
and the event stewards Phil Marris and Robyn Quinn
for helping to make the event the success it was.

Despite winning the previous Motorkhana
in his shared Toyota Corolla
Andrew 'Andy' Horn was not able to repeat this feat.
Andrew pushed the Corolla to it's limit
until a front axle broke late in the day
seeing him completing the last few runs
in the Club Camira.
In only his 2nd ever Motorsports event
Joe 'Joey' Warren
showed great improvement throughout the day
and finished a very credible 6th overall
in the Club Camira.
The DSMSA has enjoyed great exposure in recent months, via various media outlets and especially online,
and the club has enjoyed attracting some of the regions so-called 'boy racers' to have their car fun
in a legal environment without endangering members of the public or suffering the wrath of the law.
With the continued support of local Police, Council, businesses, and individuals
the club is looking forward to a very successful 2008
and to seeing many more young drivers attending future events.
“Our upcoming practise day will be an ideal opportunity for anyone considering competing in the future,
or just wanting to have some fun on a dirt track, to come along and have a go” says DSMSA President Bob Errey,
“and we welcome all drivers from 14yo, and with any skill level,
to have some fun while learning their limits safely”.
“Some of our members are highly skilled drivers” Bob says,
“and are only too happy to pass on their knowledge to those learning to drive.
The dramatic driving improvement, especially in competition,
of many of our newer members shows just how much can be learnt attending DSMSA events and activities” he says.
Anne 'Annie' Thornbury, like her partner Andrew,
could not repeat her 2nd overall position
in the clubs previous Motorkhana
and dropped down to 7th overall.
Anne did however win the ladies class on the day
and even though some of the guys
put in some girly runs
she was the only competitor to qualify for the class!
Christian 'Mufti' Letondeur bought up the rear
in 8th overall
in only his 1st ever motorsports event.
By days end Christian was beating
some of the more experienced competitors
in individual runs and will definitely
become much more competitive
as the season progresses.
The Club Camira served him well nonetheless
although like all who drove it
Christian's arms were a little tired
after manhandling the car through the witches hats
due to a total lack of power steering!
