Ross Dunkerton is No Mug
although he has been known to play the part rather well.
Ross "Dunko" Dunkerton is Australia's
most successful rally driver of all time
and is an absolute legend in Australian Motor Sport.
Dunko has been Australian National Rally Champion 5 times,
a record that is unequalled to this day,
and has won over 100 rallies throughout his career spanning 4 decades
including numerous international events!
Dunko continues to compete
and most recently won Targa West in both 2006 & 2007
along with great finishes in NZ rallies in 2008 & 2009.
Dunko and his family have recently moved to Cairns,
and have since joined our Mossman club,
and are very enthusiastic and supportive
of the Grass Roots Motor Sports fun we offer.
Dunko rates our track as "The Best Community Khanacross Track in Australia"
We regard ourselves as very fortunate to have their involvement,
and look forward to seeing them at many more events in the future.
Dunko very graciously played the part of the Motorsports Mossman Mug
on the weekend of the 9th & 10th August 2008
and arrived at the track on Saturday in costume
and proceeded to take Junior Motorkhana competitors
for a lap around the track whilst still incognito in a borrowed Bluebird.
“Cars are not supposed to go that fast around corners!”
said Tonja Ryan at the completion of her Hot Laps.
