2010 sees the DSMSA introduce New Junior Motorkhanas - Especially for 12-14 year olds
and including 14 - 16 year old 1st time drivers.
14yo - 16yo drivers must have competed in at least one Junior Motorkhana before being permitted to compete in a Khanacross.
The DSMSA Junior Motorkhanas are introductory level single vehicle timed motorsport events
being a race against the clock in an effort to post the fastest time over a closed course
driven on a flat and safe grass course around witches hats
at The Reef & Rainforest Track - Mossman. Get directions to and see our track here
The emphasis is on fun & driver education rather than outright speed.
Many of our longer term junior drivers are now competing with, and beating many of, our senior drivers -
much to the chagrin of some -
despite none being yet able to drive on the road so there is no doubt that our continued education of junior drivers
is of great benefit to both them and the community at large, not to mention the fun we provide :)
Mums or Dads are permitted to be passengers, although all passengers may act as an instructor in non-competitive activity only, subject to prior approval by
the Clerk of the Course Any instructor must be over 18 and hold a CAMS and civil driver’s licence and comply with all safety requirements and use of seat belt.
Instructors must sign the appropriate indemnity form and the DSMSA also provides experienced competition drivers as instructors during events at no charge.
Plus A Free Car is Provided For All Drivers.
Multiple sessions are held at each Motorkhana event with track variations made between sessions.
With more skill than speed being required by Motorkhana competitors there are penalties for mistakes.
The application of these penalties is as follows:
(i)Wrong Direction, any procedure other than that specified as the correct procedure for completing that course
Slowest time plus five (5) seconds (or fastest time x 2 whichever is the quickest.)
(ii)Failure to complete a course
